2011 P&DC Wrap-Up

I have the privilege to be posting this blog today, just 2 days after the annual AIA Colorado Practice & Design Conference. For those of you who went to this year’s conference I assume you’re still feeling inspired and can’t wait to rush into the office this morning, franticly put all your great ideas on paper and then sell them to your team at the Monday morning staff with as much excitement and passion as those we sat and listened to for 3 days straight.  Sloped roof plaza, open to the public anyone? ADA who? You know what I mean….

I could go on and on about the amazing speakers and the work they presented but I suggest you read the official 2011 Practice & Design Conference Blog for a full recap of the conference.  Our own Adam Hillhouse blogged during each presentation and did an excellent job of captured the passion, excitement and dedication that each presenter had for architecture & design. Grab a cup of coffee, fire up the computer and enjoy a full recap of the conference…

For those of you who didn’t make it to this year’s conference I suggest you put it on your calendar for next year.  I’ve been attending the AIA Colorado P&DC for several years, first as a student and now as an associate, and each year I leave feeling inspired, energetic and more passionate for our profession.  Though year after year the speakers have always left me feeling inspired and excited about design, my experience at the conference goes beyond the presentations.  For me, the best thing about the conference is the conversations that are held outside the presentations, the relationships that are developed over late night drinks and the networking that is created on the exhibit floor.  I encourage you all to attend next year’s Practice and Design Conference.  I encourage you to go to the lectures, take notes, get inspired and then find a dozen people to talk about what you just heard.  I encourage all of you to take the opportunity to meet new people, develop deeper relationships, create new networks and have a few drinks while you’re at it. You won’t be disappointed, I promise!

On behalf of the whole EP Blog committee, I’d like to take this opportunity to personally thank EVERYONE who was involved in planning and organizing this year’s conference.  Thank you to the committee and volunteers who help make the conference great. Thank you to the exhibitors for all the free shwag and awesome door prizes. Thank you to all the presenters for taking time out of your busy schedules to come share your thoughts and ideas with us.  Thank you to everyone who came to the Emerging Professionals Happy Hour Saturday night. And a big THANK YOU to the AIA Colorado Staff for putting in the long hours and late nights, the conference wouldn’t be successful without your hard work.  I can’t wait for next year!

What did you think about this year’s conference? What was your favorite part? Did you leave feeling inspired?  Did you develop new relationships?  Did you create a new network?

  1. I brought my laptop up to Keystone and started implementing what I learned while the afternoon sessions were going on. I’ve been working on things all weekend. It was an amazing learning experience!
